My Morning Jacket has been knocking folks off their feet for years. They are known for a fantastic live show and moving, memorable albums. Records you used to throw on the turntable that you could just listen to over and over again-- that's what we're talking about here-- great songs with a voice that you could spend the rest of your life with. Badman befriended these gentlemen from Louisville a few years back and released their final indie CD Chocolate and Ice before they starting working with RCA/ATO.
One thing that definitely changed on Z is that the band didn't record in the same farmhouse that was the playground for the sound and feel of their earlier albums. "I love that place, and it has lots of good memories," says singer Jim James, "But it'll be good to find somewhere else. I'm excited." In other words, different environments get the blood flowing. This time around the band worked with producer John Leckie whose production work includes George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Radiohead's The Bends as well as releases by the The Stone Roses.
It Still Moves is the sound of something we could've sworn irony had shot dead, resurrected to take us away all over again. --Playboy
It Still Moves is much more than an homage to old ways, it's a record of passion and richness, with a horde of memorable songs that demands to be treated as the equal to its inspirations. 5 Stars --Uncut
