NIOBE’s most accessible album since Tse Tse, White Hats projects memories from a ski vacation in the Swiss Alps sometime in the 1950s and it bears the easiness, miracles and mysteries of nature in the mountains, and carries as much romanticism as today's modern world can allow. The album is carefully shaped with a great variety of sound colorings and associations that illustrate her amazing ease of traveling through the last eight decades of songwriting and chanson highlights. Niobe's songs are starting to breathe through the uniqueness of her voice that transmits all the emotional variety that we already had discovered by surprise in her early cut-up work (even through the thickest walls of sound). She is mostly focusing on the big Pop-panorama: ambient-bossa-nova and hip hop with a gospel touch are sitting together in the mountain sun on top of the White Hats (which can be seen on the cover artwork). Her passionate voice is wandering between many worlds, marching through picturesque landscapes, and releasing its amazing powers over crystalline guitars. Nobody would have suggested at the beginning of her work as a sound artist that Niobe was going to write songs such as "Cool Alpine," a song that most certainly would transport Phil Spector back into the mood of the disco-funk era. An optimistic divergence from her previous albums.
